This is the time of year when the natural world rests. Many of the plant species go dormant and animals hibernate. The lesson for us is to take the time to be still and find our center. If we can do that regularly and truly remember ourselves for the next few months, we are better prepared for the rebirth in the Spring.
Everyone seems to be making preparations for Thanksgiving. We are taught to use this time to be grateful for what we have been given and celebrate our forefathers and mothers ability to survive in the new world. If we wanted to celebrate as they did we would be eating lobster, shellfish, squash and corn cake which doesn’t sound too bad. We have developed our own traditional concoctions over the decades and centuries.
In order to practice real gratitude, we must find a way to flow between giving and receiving in all areas of our lives.. I am blessed with being a great giver but I lack the ability to receive easily. This is the result of an upbringing that valued giving over receiving. I appreciate all the role models I had who helped develop my instinctive reflex to give first but we also need strong role models to show us how to practice receiving with grace and ease. It is our birthright to remember ourselves and become whole and in balance with the natural world. Both giving and receiving are based in love. Love gives and receives simultaneously and is the highest vibration made real.
So, at this time of the year it is important to recognize gratitude in all its various forms and allow your heart and mind to be open to receive what is for your highest good and be thankful for the gift
